Choosing a Kitchen Sink – What to Keep in Mind

Remodeling your home is fun but you soon realize you’re going to have to make a decision about every little thing including faucets and sinks.

You may think choosing a kitchen sink is simple until you see the wide variety of styles you can pick from. Don’t get overwhelmed by all the options; use the following guidelines to help you narrow down your choices.

types of kitchen sink

Available types of kitchen sink:

· Under Mount, Top Mount and Integrated sinks

There are three main types of sinks that you can choose from: under mount, top mount and integrated sinks. The type you choose depends on the amount of space you have and the material of your counter top.

Under mount sinks: These are sinks that fit below your counter. The biggest advantage of such sinks is that you can wipe the counter down right into the sink; you don’t have to worry about things getting stuck on its edges because it has none.

These sinks work best with soapstone, granite, concrete and marble tops. Tile and laminate counters aren’t sturdy enough to accommodate under mount sinks.

Top mount sinks: These sinks are easy to install which is why they are so common. They fit into a hole in your countertop and don’t require interior support.

Integrated sinks: These sinks are made of the same material as the counter top and made to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen.

· Options of materials

Your kitchen sink is susceptible to daily wear and tear so you need to look for durable, cost-effective materials.

Stainless steel kitchen sinks lost longer than enamel coated kitchen sinks that will easily show scratches with time. If you’re worried about the noise than stainless steel sinks can make then look for one with sound absorption technology.

· Number of bowls

The number of bowls/basins your kitchen sink has will be based on the space you have. Most kitchen sinks will have double bowls but if you’re working with a smaller space, a single bowl will be give you more counter space.

If you have enough space for two bowls, consider the size of the pots and pans you’ll be washing. It may be better for to have bowls of different sizes to accommodate larger pots and pans.
